Sophie's 3rd Birthday

Sophie's birthday week was filled with lots of fun!  Grandma and Grandpa came to visit for the occasion.  Her special day started with a breakfast of one of her favorites, Dunkin' Donuts and chocolate milk.  We put a candle in one and sang her happy birthday.  I don't think this is a song she appreciates right now, she gets a stern look on her face and puts her head down. A right of passage for any toddler I'm sure.

We had a little birthday party for Sophie at the park.  It was Rapunzel themed from the movie Tangled.  Mom and I made special cupcakes for the event and Dan grilled some hamburgers and hot dogs.

Mmmm, yummy cupcakes

That's a happy girl!

Relaxing with Grandma
We also spent a day at Green Meadows Farm while Grandma and Grandpa were here.  It's a beautiful place where you can hold and pet various types of animals.  We held baby chicks and baby ducks.  Sophie wasn't so sure of the little ones, they cheeped and quacked very loudly while being held.  Grandma was in charge of catching a grown chicken and duck to pet. She did a great job, those guys are hard to catch!  We did a hay ride, rode a small train, and Sophie rode on a pony.  It was a fun day!

Then her pony took a potty break

The weather warmed up a little bit and we took a trip to the beach.  It started off a little chilly in the morning, so we all bundled up.  Sophie was the only one brave enough to wear a swimsuit!

She requested that I bury her over and over again. It was a fun day!
Before Grandma and Grandpa left, they took Sophie to see the Easter Bunny!  She was not scared of him at all, and we got an adorable picture out of it!

House Expansion: Weeks 9-12

Things are moving along nicely with the house expansion.  We have ourselves a new fence!  Not really a part of the expansion, but an improvement to our backyard.  After we cleared out all of the bushes and limbed up all the trees, we found ourselves lacking the privacy we once had.  In a couple of days, two guys had the old fence down and the new one up.  It's beautiful!  There is still much to be done with the backyard, but the fence has already made such a huge difference.

The new beauty!

We are getting some new siding for the house.  We are replacing the vinyl siding to match the rest of what will be put on the new part of the house.  The old vinyl siding had to come down, and it has revealed an old original house.  It's a lovely, old-fashioned yellow color.  Yikes!!

Takes you back, huh?

The expansion was patiently awaiting its new roof, so that meant the entire roof would be done.  While they were connecting the two roof structures, it left us a little exposed to the elements.  Our roof had previously had some problems with leaks, and now that they took some of the roofing away, those leaks were apparent.  One night we had a lot of rain, and before we knew it, water was leaking in through our back door and down the window of Sophie's room (which were both places secured inside the new structure).  Our contractor came out to the house right away.  As I pulled up to the house after my shift at work, I saw some guys standing on the roof.  It was very dark and still pouring rain, and two guys were up there trying to secure a gigantic tarp to the back half of the roof.  Talk about dedication and money well spent.  These guys were great!
A beautiful blue tarp!

Tomorrow they are tearing down this wall!!  It is the area that connects the two structures.  So this is a huge step in the process of moving forward!  Say goodbye to the "Rock Room"...

Stay tuned to see this wall come down and some dry wall go up!
